So funny, I watched it twice. (Forgive the ads on this one, too.)

Guess who’s not coming to dinner

So often, Roger Ebert’s political commentary goes unnoticed.

Loves Me… Loves Me Not

Hello Friends,

So I decided to try out a different design tonight. My guess is the backlash will be strong and I’ll wind up going back to the design that was up yesterday. But, please be nice and give this one a chance… I’ve been wanting to do a light-on-dark design for a long time, so I decided to try it out. If you hate it (or love it), you know what to do.

Cheers,
Nevan

Someone fire their agents! 26 actors who deserve better careers

The A.V. Club gives their picks. Given that the recent Batman movie kind of slighted his character, I’d say Aaron Eckhart also belongs on this list. (If you don’t believe me, watch him opposite Helena Bonham Carter in Conversations with Other Women)

Le Dérive: On the Art of Urban Drifting

Next time you go to the city why not try a little dérive? Just let the psychogeography of the urban landscape move your feet…………

By one Guy Debord, originally published in Les Lèvres Nues #9 November 1956 and officially endorsed by L’Internationale Situationniste.

Debate Reax

Andrew Sullivan scrapes together a good variety of reactions to last night’s debate.

Google Takes Official Stance Against California’s Anti Gay Marriage Proposition

Sergey Brin on the Google Blog:

While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 — we should not eliminate anyone’s fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.

Fantastic. (Via Daring Fireball.)

How Many Countries Can You Name in Five Minutes?

44 for me. Can you beat it (probably; apparently I forgot 226 countries)?

The Sorted Books project began in 1993 and is ongoing. The project has taken place in many different places over the years, ranging form private homes to specialized public book collections. The process is the same in every case: culling through a collection of books, pulling particular titles, and eventually grouping the books into clusters so that the titles can be read in sequence, from top to bottom. The final results are shown either as photographs of the book clusters or as the actual stacks themselves, shown on the shelves of the library they were drawn from. Taken as a whole, the clusters from each sorting aim to examine that particular library’s focus, idiosyncrasies, and inconsistencies — a cross-section of that library’s holdings. At present, the Sorted Books project comprises more than 130 book clusters.

Awesome things on the street by Peter Gibson. (Except for that one thing by Banksy.)

This isn’t the entire Couric-Palin interview, but it’s probably the most substantive clip I’ve found so far. It’s worth hanging on until the end for her perspective on Israel.

(Again, sorry about the ad, but at least this should load faster on campus than YouTube. Does anyone know what the deal is?)

This is a flow chart explaining the process of becoming a legal citizen for an immigrant.

N.B. Open in a new window for it to big enough to read.

The Subprime Mortgage Primer

I don’t claim to be an economist. In fact, I understand very little about the economy. While searching the internet to curb my fears of our economy’s current state, I came across this comic explaining (through vulgar-voiced stick-figures) how we got in this mess.

New York Times Op-Art: Statler & Waldorf

I thought this one was particularly appropriate given the theme of the Orientation Cabaret.
